  1. I’m a multimedia design student and all this knowledge I have is unconnected information, small bits of information about everything, not specific information about anything concrete. I learned how to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign well, but no one taught me how to actually start being designer, get recognized and get work! Your video gave me a sense of structure, where to start, what to learn first, and how to get where I want to be, so thank you!! You managed to help me more than 2 years of uni!

    1. Yes. I learned bits of everything in college, but very general and not in detail. For a job, you really need to dive deep into a subject. In my college they didn’t prepare me properly on how to get a job either. My major was art and my minor was media and communication.

    2. I feel the same. I didn’t do University though, I did a year long full time tertiary course (was called certificate 4 multimedia). Was more of a crash course in using Adobe software but you came out feeling comfortable in the basics and being able to work out the rest. I never did go any further with it. Now I’m middle aged with a family, mortgage and in a job that I have to do not because I want to. It’s a job where you need to remind yourself of your self worth regardless of what anyone else in management or the public has to say about that.

Came home depressed last night because of some class A1 👌 treatment from management and the public. I’m just browsing around YouTube at the moment looking at the “what if’s” for another pathway for the rest of my working life!

    3. I’m starting multimedia design next year august (wanted to start this year but missed the deadline for the application by 2 weeks) so i’m applying in january and starting hopefully in august if i get in, for now i’m just gonna gain work experience, i start at a digital agency in 2 weeks, i sign the contract next week where i get to work freelance as a ui / ux designer, web designer, ecommerce etc etc… so yea nice to meet a fellow multimedia student!!!

  2. This is great advice. I would also encourage graphic designers to learn how to prepare files for print, this is also a very technical skill like learning Ai or Ps but it doesn’t take much time. I did not study GD but at my first GD job I had to learn how to prep a lot of flyers/posters/signs on different papers for print. If you’re not sure how to prep a file for print call or email the printer they’ll be happy to help.

  3. 3. DO NOT STEAL DESIGNS FROM ANYONE its a great way to get sued and give yourself a bad rep in the industry as a scum bag thief that has no creativity

    1. Nothing wrong with copying for practice, but for clients’ work, you should create something original.

  4. Who wants to join a discord to learn graphic design together for beginners? We can make a study plan together, share helpful sources, complete each other’s learning, and motivate each other…

  5. I love this video. I knew I would find other graphic designers who are self-taught without a college degree that are equally talented if not better. I’ve been designing for over 20 years and almost everything I know I learned on my own. Please join my Facebook group and let’s motivate others to do the same.

  6. There is so much information on the internet that it becomes so hard to understand where to start from! Great video!!

  7. I really love this video and appreciate all the work you do. I’m currently in my first week and I’ve noticed that some of the articles you shared were old. I’m wondering if there’s some new resources that you don’t mind sharing with us. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  8. Wow this vid has really enlightened me. I want to know if i can grow much passion it’s like I just wanna do it . How did you get the interest or passion .

  9. I really appreciate you being so straightforward and honest with the message while applying for internships. When I was applying, I was badly influenced by the “best” example cover letters on Google and unnecessarily stressed myself out for portraying a perfect and confident image (which is so not the case). I now feel so bad about the agencies I’ve applied to, which were in my top list, but I’ll be careful now on. Thanks a lot again! :)

    1. try not to copy/paste what’s out there online. be real and tell them what you’re looking for. You don’t need to be perfect for the internship :)
